SBAS Service Provider Certification Workshop
15 - 17 November
Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) is widely appreciated as a system augmenting core Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) constellations using geostationary satellites, which makes it possible to provide accurate location information to within several meters while ensuring integrity and continuity necessary for aviation users.
The Korean SBAS, also known as KASS (Korea Augmentation Satellite System), is currently being developed under the management of Korea SBAS Programme Office of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI). KASS is due to start delivering a Safety of Life (SoL) service for aviation in the near future, and will provide the high level of integrity required for most aviation navigation operations and become a key technology for improving the efficiency of airspace operations in Korea.
EASA is providing technical support to Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology (KIAST) and Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) that have been tasked by MOLIT to perform KASS system certification. As a next step, it is important to ensure that the KASS service is provided on continuous basis to various categories of users by a certified Service Provider.
In the framework of the EU-ROK Aviation Partnership Project (APP), MOLIT and EASA are organising a workshop covering the aspects of regulation, steps, processes, procedures, practices, system, and competency of personnel for the certification of SBAS Service Providers. At the event, authority perspectives will be complemented by presentations from industry partners.
The workshop will be held from 15 to 17 November at the premises of KARI and also facilitates online attendance. Experts from the EU and ROK will cover the following topics, among others:
EU approach (from regulator, service provider and industry) to SBAS Service Provider certification
Plan for operation of the KASS
Roles and Responsibilities of the SBAS Service Provider
SBAS Maintenance services
