Continuing their cooperation in the Air Traffic Management (ATM) domain, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) organised a workshop on the collection, processing and analysis of ATM safety data. Using the EU-ROK Aviation Partnership Project (APP) platform, the event was also attended by other stakeholders to share experiences and perspectives, including Eurocontrol, DGAC (France), DFS (Germany), and the Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology (KIAST).

The workshop was held from 31 January to 2 February in Seoul. The regulatory ATM frameworks in the EU and ROK were first introduced to the audience, following which topics such as ATM safety data collection, analysis and utilisation in ROK and the European Safety Risk Management system were further elaborated on. French and German experience with ATM safety data collection and analysis were shared with example of an incident analysis. Other topics included ATM safety issue identification and assessment, mitigation actions and safety promotion, among others. The programme ended on the last day with a panel discussion to share insights for the future.

Participants from both the Korean and European sides stated that the workshop had been very useful, and there was a lot of interest in extended discussions on ATM safety data. The EU-ROK APP will continue to support the cooperation by organising activities on ATM and other domains in the near future, helping to enhance the partnership between the EU and ROK in civil aviation.
